Box Project

Oil on panel, 2021

51 × 41 cm

Layers of block-like forms, shadowed planes and chalk-sketched squares fold memories of a lost pub into the hard geometry of a new housing development. The painting reflects on encountering these buildings at night and wondering what kinds of lives and pressures they hold. It considers the aims of the development as an attempt to respond to the hard realities of the city.
