Turbulent blue sea-like field with swirling strokes and a cluster of rough, looping yellow marks near the centre, suggesting a small, frantic vessel or tangle of activity on restless water.

Mud Fight at Sea

Oil on panel, 2021

61 × 60 cm

Mud Fight at Sea works with oil bar as if it were a blunt, limited tool for staying afloat, like frantically bailing with whatever comes to hand. Loose yellow marks thrash across a churning blue ground, somewhere between waves, wreckage and scribble. The scene is absurd and slightly comic, yet it rings true to the feeling of struggling with limited resources in a situation that keeps swelling around you.
